Activities and the Region

There are many ways to visit an area. The best way is to do it in person..

There are many ways to visit an area. The best way is visit it personally. First however, it may be better to have a bit of preparation and information about what you are about to see. An alternative way to discover the territory is to follow the trail of smell and taste from the noble products of the area.

The “Langa” region, cradle of food tourism, hosts the production area of the famous Barolo wine, obtained from the grapes of the Nebbiolo grapevine, and of many other prestige wines such as our Pelaverga of Verduno; this peculiarity creates the unmistakable panorama, and the vineyards become the main natural element of the landscape.

Another protagonist is the white truffle of alba; invisible, imperceptible, living hidden in the shadow of lime, oak, poplar, willow and hazelnut trees. The treasure hunt is reserved for “truffle hunters” accompanied by their precious dogs; by tradition you hunt at night, in the autumn period, in search of the precious tuber.

All the tastes of the territory you find again on the table in the many restaurants and typical “trattoria” that propose traditional culinary dishes combined with the grand wines of Langa; endless products, cheeses, salami, fruit and vegetables, sweets etc., which have now gained recognition as brands of quality. Lovers of food and wine will find their moment of pleasure in this region.

“The Wine Road”; paths that can be followed on foot, on horseback and on mountain bike, flow between the wine growing hills of the low Langa area. Crossing the hills embroidered by grapevines, woods and hazelnut trees is a unique experience as well as a pretext to discovering new and suggestive views. Together with the renewed attention to nature that has grown in the last few years, a new interest in trekking, and many other open air sport activities have also developed.

Nearly every hill top in Langa is dominated by the mass of a castle, indicating a strong feudal civilization. Their charm is transmitted, being part of the landscape, as an essential element of the area; at least this is true for the skyline of some villages such as Barolo, Grinzane Cavour, Castiglione Falletto, Serralungad’Alba, Roddi etc.
